So today my boyfriend was getting on my nerves and i kept on telling him to stop doing what he was doing. He didn't stop so eventually i gave him a light playful slap on the cheek and then he just struck me back on the face right where my mouth was real hard. I was tearing up but i didn't say anything. I don't think that it was right of him even though he said he did it because one day ill do something like that to someone and then will do a lot worse and he also said he did it because he was getting angry. But i was the one that was getting angry...

Nope. That wasn't right at all. If you just hit him lightly. Now if you had hit him hard, he does have a right to self defense. But that's about it.
