Mothercare... more like we don't care about mother

Mothercare have crashed and died at the bottom of my Mummy list of retailers. About as helpful as a smack in the face. I bought a cot for my baby who is now 10 1/2 months old. The cot didn't come with teething protector covers on the sides so I stupidly assumed that the cot must be made to a high standard and toddlers would not be able to chew into the wood. Oh silly me. I woke up one morning this week with the awful painful cry coming from my son's room. When i walked in i saw blood in his mouth. My initial thought was - oh my god he's fallen and hit his mouth. It wasn't until closer inspection that I realised he must have been awake for some time quite happily chewing away on the side of his cot, a nice relieving sensation for a teething toddler. He'd bitten straight into the wood which had splintered and gone straight into his lip. I managed to pull the splinter out and got straight on the phone to a relative, who is luckily for me,is a dentist. She came over and sorted the rest out for me. I was soon on the phone to Customer Complaints at Mothercare, not helpful nor sympathetic whatsoever. As you can imagine I was somewhat devastated about what had happened, in tears on the telephone. The general response from Mothercare was that the cot met safety standards and that if babies are going to chew they will chew (their words not mine). They also said that I should be supervising my child.... This is a cot we are talking about not a toy. One would presume that something such as a cot which of course is going to be used without supervision should meet higher standards than these set at Mothercare. Design faults, design faults, design faults. Not only are the standards extremely poor in furniture terms but the standard of the staff they have in Customer Care is absolutely disgusting.
