merchants using the full credit card number on you

I purchased a product at Clover Supply Co. located at 4742 West Ridge Road, Spencerport, NY 14559 (585)-352-2232 and noticed on my receipt that they print out the entire credit card number on their receipts and keep at as a copy for proof of purchase..I feel that they should only use the last 4 digits of your card to prevent identity theft. Is this legal??
