Lost money at a hotel

We left my daughters purse in a hotel by mistake.Contacted the Hotel who found the purse and contents of £27.00 and said they would keep safe until my sister who lived about 20 miles away could get to collect.When she went to collect no sign of purse at all.Owner refusing to take calls now although did say he would compensate for the loss.Very Very angry now!!! Have threatened to go to local newspaper if still no joy.Any other ideas???
