We are under a lease agreement until January 31. We are breaking a lease for some personal reason. The rent in the agreement is $1700 until the lease ends. We gave the one month notice on 28 June. So we'll be leaving the apartment on 26 August. We called the manager about lease transfer, she said we need to talk to head manager about this. When we called the head manager, he said that 'its not a problem, as long we get the rent, whatever you are paying right now, we dont mind doing the lease transfer, the only thing you need to do is feel out the new occupancy form'. So we went ahead and started a search for somebody who would want to terminate our lease to their name. When we found somebody, the head manager suddenly changed his mind saying that they cannot do the lease transfer it against their policy, insted they'll give six month lease to this person and make him pay the market rate which is $1935 and that we pay the difference which is $ 235 to this person until January. We have this managers statement recorded in our cell phone conversation when he had agreed to do the lease termination. Now this manager people are getting greeding. They want us to pay the rent for an empty apartment if they dont find anybody until our lease expires. I dont get it why would they want to make us pay for the empty apartment when there are more than 5 to 6 families ready to do the lease transfer whithout even getting it cleaned and taking it as is. The only thing they need to do is add their names ot our lease, and we also told that we are ready to take the responsibility for whatever happens until our lease expires.
