Lawless Landlord

Landlord Richard McEwan-Peters of RMP Properties in Leeds changed the locks on the house my son and his friends rented from him while they were out, illegally removed all of their belongings from the house and then demanded £670 compensation for spurious / non-existent damage to the house. He demanded payment before they could have their property back. The lads' rent had always been paid in full and on time. The alleged damage consisted of nails in walls (I removed these and made repairs and repainted myself) and some minor stains on walls (completely cleaned off by my wife). He had been blacklisted by students' housing group Unipol after it was alerted to a host of alleged problems including houses being infested with rats and mice. See article 'Truly Horrendous' in Yorkshire Evening Post, 21st February 2001. He rents dozens of properties in the impoverished Hyde Park area of Leeds. Many of his tenants think he is an unscrupulous thug. Beware. Be aware.
