KLM's theft policy

I recently flew with KLM from UK to Kuwait. On my return journey my bags were broken into after checkin and a number of gold items and personal clothing were stolen from it. Having contacted KLM and them asking for receipts I have been told that they refuse to accept liability for the thefts. Does anybody else have any dealings with KLM or advice on how I can get some form of admission from them.
