injury

I am an independant truck driver working for a broker. Rescently, I was injured in one of the places from which I continuously deliver and pick up recycling materials. I was unaware of the safety procedures I had to follow due to the fact that I just started working for that company. I had worked in the past with them for a short period of time and nobody mentioned anything and the boss forgot to tell me when I started working for him again. The forman of this recycling company allowed one of the employees to drive me to a nearby clinic to get treatment and he said that I had to pay for it. Since I am not a direct employee, I was not covered under their insurance. I don't have insurance myself and all I wanted is to get treatment. Now, I have a huge medical bill that I have to pay because the recycling company does not want to make themselves responsible, even though it happened within their working premises. I spoke with my boss (broker) and he said he was going to speak with the owner of the place to get to an agreement, but I have not heard anything yet. All I want to know is if they can help me pay the medical bill, since it was work related or what should I do?
