I'm scared

He is everything that I wanted the other guy to be, but I'm scared that he'll never feel the same and that he doesn't want me. He's my best friend--how can I ruin the friendship? Sometimes I want to ask him if there is ever a chance, but I am afraid of the answer. If he says no, then it will be awkward. If he says yes, then what if something doesn't work out. He understands me better than anyone and there is nobody that I care more for outside of family. We're both adults, but it feels like junior high all over again.
