Idaho Harley Dealership

I bought an alarm system for my husbands bike, the salesman told me emphatically NOT to have their service dept. put it on the bike, it was an easy do it yourself. We had another respected bike mechanic install it while he was down there anyway changing out the tires. Turns out the alarm has a factory fault and locks the rider out, preventing them from being able to start the engine. A common problen I come to find out. The Harley dealership I bought it from (High Desert in Boise)refuses to honor the warranty because we didn't have THEIR mechanics install it. Nevermind that they refer customers to the mechanic we did use all the time when they are too busy! She insisted that if we wanted to have them send the alarm in to Harley-Davidson that we would have to pay their shop to install it again to verify that it was actually the alarm that had the fault and not the other mechanic. Coincidentally, the cost of doing so is just about equal to the cost of buying a new alarm all together! They justify this policy saying that they do not accept returns or exchanges on electronics anyways. We have spent nearly $30,000 in the last 4 months, including the bike that we were putting the alarm on! To add insult to injury, the store manager accused us of fraud, of trying to screw the system over by taking an old, broken alarm off the bike and trying to get a refund for it. I told her that the serial numbers wouldn't match. Her answer was that they don't have access to serial numbers, only part numbers. That's just BS. Just goes to show what happens when a good thing goes corporate and completely loses touch with the people.
