I think I'm bipolar but refuse to see a doctor

I've been reading about bipolar disorder, and although I know it's not right to self diagnose, many of the things said are quite accurate; I refuse to see a doctor however. I can only imagine the judgments that would be going through their head about me, and confessing to someone that I suffer from depression would be freaking humiliating. I really don't know what to do, especially since sometimes I get into horrible depressive states. I really want to feel better, but this is embarassing.

Sounds like you have ASD, or rather Attention Seeking Disorder. You want to be BiPo, but you know you're not. And if you went and got diagnosed, you'd be too worried that you don't have it and then will have nothing to bank on when it comes to seeking attention.

You must not hesitate to show your problem. That might heart in long time.

I have bi-polar. Lucky it isn't bad enough to require medication. You can self manage by getting plenty of sleep, a healthy diet and exercise every day. Have a hobby you enjoy that gets you out of the house at least once a week. Keep a diary of your moods (i use a smiley face code) and you will start to notice a pattern. When you feel yourself getting on the down slope, either stay with friends for a couple of days or do what I do - check into a hotel or backpackers for a couple of nights. Try and limit your drinking as much as possible and if you are a drug user (including marijuana) quit as soon as you can. It sounds like hard work, but honestly, if you don't want to medicate, this is how you help yourself.
