I think I like the guy I hated for years

So I have no idea what to do, there is this guy we were friends when we were really young and then he moved away. At the end of middle school him moved back and we went threw that and high school together but I don't think he remembered me from before. I really hated him for the longest time because for a few years our teachers kept putting us together for group projects (usually with 2 other people) he would spent the whole project telling me what to do and spent a lot of time with just me working on the projects. He was a real show off most of the time and and I started to hate him because he would take all the credit for everything. When I reached 10th he started acting strange around me, and I don't really know how or when it happened but I think I'm starting to really like him and I don't know what to do! I'm really shy most of the time and get really awkward talking to people outside of my small group of friends. This is my last year of high school and I'm scared I'll never see him again. I've never told anyone this before because my friends all hate him and I don't know hoe they would react. Anyone got any advise? I would really appreciate it.

I don't think selfish is the right word or lying. He is one of those people who really worry about their grades, my best friend is the same why so I understand why he acted like that.
