I swear, when I grow up I'll pay it back...

Back when I was eleven my best friend and I went to church on Sunday as we usually did but since we didn't particularly like going to church for anyother reason except to steal money from the donation box and the money deposit box where candles were lit and prayers made. This one time we brought a screwdriver with us and we pried the box open and all the money fell out on the floor. We panicked thinking someone must have heard cause it made a lot of noise. We ran and hid, after a few minutes when the coast was clear, we went back and took all of the money which was more than 300 dollars in bills and coins. I felt bad about it and promised that when I grew up I'd go back and pay it. Since then, I've thought about going back and making a donation for that amount, but now that I'm 37, I don't want to. I don't feel guilty anymore. I don't regret it either. It was just something I did as a boy. I kinda feel that honoring my original intention is the adult thing to do, so I'm confessing it because I'm not going to. That was then, this is now.

Here is the problem. You never made amends. You knew what you were doing was wrong at the time. That is why you made a decision to pay it back when you got older. Merely confessing that you no longer feel guilty does not make amends for the act. It only means you sense of right and wrong has diminished with age. Karma is going to be a huge bitch on this one. I would strongly encourage you to pay it back before the universe sends you a bill.

He was 11, you must of done stupid things in the past too. I stole a $100 bike from WAL-MART...see? I was stupid but we learn from our mistake.

So a thief doesn't want to pay something back, and a criminal doesn't feel guilty. What a surprise.
