I have concerns about my boyfriend (he wanted to become a monk and he's 41)

My boyfriend was in a 6 year relationship with a woman. They got engaged and then they broke up. During their engagement he talked with her often about wanting to become a monk and this really bothered her. Then after he broke up with her, he wanted to join Lifemates, a really expensive dating service. When the Lifemates asked him if he wanted to marry he said, "I'm not sure." He was 35 at the time. For years afterward, he toyed with the idea of becoming a monk, spending lots of time in monasteries. He dated internationally for a bit. He got accepted into the monastery recently and was just about to accept it but decided at the last minute that the monastic life wasn't for him. Now he's interested in pursuing a serious relationship with me. What do you think?

Maybe he got scared and backed out? Its a very strict life and not for everyone. I don't see anything wrong with it.
