I didn't go to school.

I don't have an education. This may sound funny, but I'm now 18 years old, and started "homeschool" in second grade until 12th grade, where I was put into a public school. After a few months of lessons, my parents didn't really have a plan and got lazy I suppose, but I didn't have any lessons of any kind for a very long time. I would watch tv, play around while my mom and dad were at work, and hang out and do normal kid stuff. Maybe go out and hang out with friends or go out with my mom. Life wasn't bad by any means, but up until now (being a college freshman taking remedial classes at a local community college) i've been terrified to admit this to anyone, fearing i'd get my parents in trouble. I eventually was old enough to realize this was not how and elementary, middle and high school education is supposed to pan out, but I didn't know where to start. Even now, I'm decent in english, but don't know how to do math higher than multiplication, or any sciences really. I've wanted to say this for years, as people give me weird looks or call me dumb for not knowing things some others know (like history, geographical locations or math that is easy for most people) and I easily get written off as someone who slacked off in school, didn't care about the subject and didn't learn, or just wasn't smart enough to get into a good university. Now that i'm in college, taking remedial courses I'm struggling and embarrassed that I can't comprehend, i'm finally admitting it: I didn't get the education that people think I did, and I don't know why this was so hard to say.

This makes no sense. There's a system that is in place for home schooled children that is governed by the state. Students are tested and the curriculum is approved based on the child's age. I don't believe this person. How'd you get into college, they would have sent you to get your GED. I dunno... something just doesn't add up here.

You may not like to hear this but your parents were fucking idiots for doing that.

This is a prime reason I'm against home schooling. Parents with no training in education whatsoever think they can teach their kids well enough to get into college. Of course the kids are going to suffer.
