house of horrors?

I was so pleased to finally purchase our first house. It was a dream come true for both of us. A small bit of land that actually belonged to me. Then it all went southbound after a week or two. See, my new house scares me! I am constantly checking the locks on the doors and windows. I am scared we will have an intruder and I also think we have some form of ghost. Not a ghost that goes wooooo but just a presence. My house creaks and groans all the time. My dog paces and looks constantly up at the ceiling. My nerves are shot. Also we now live on the outskirts of a small town and I'm a city boy born and bred. I am struggling with the lack of noise and lights! I am not kidding! When I look out the window it's so dark I feel as if some malicious force is standing just beyond where the light falls off. Unblinking. Watching. I feel it waiting for me to turn the other way so it can pounce. Waiting in the same way as monsters under the bed did as a child. Do you remember that feeling? Even now as I type this sitting at the kitchen table, I can hear knocking sounds coming from the garage. I am too fightened to go outside and look. Sounds weird? I know how it sounds. I feel stupid admitting it but I need to tell some one. My wife is feeling the strain of my nervousness too. I can't help it! I think perhaps I am losing my mind!

Dog keeps looking up at the ceiling? Probably mice up in the attic. House creaks all the time? Probably just settling, especially if it's over twenty years old. Malicious forces waiting to get you? They aren't. Now go rent the movie "Poltergeist" and have a nice laugh.
