Hotel from Hell

Last weekend a party of family and friends booked into The Roundabout Hotel, Fareham for my daughter's wedding reception at a nearby Golf Club. There were about 22 of us including the Bride, and her two Bridesmaids. Although we had all booked several months in advance not all of us had received written confirmation, despite phone calls requesting this. Subsequently, two families were turned away as having not booked! They were referred to another hotel and THEIR CREDIT CARD DETAILS PASSED ON WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION! On their return home, one couple received a letter asking for settlement of a bill because they hadn't turned up for their bookiing - they had been booked in under the name Pike instead of Sykes. Most of the bathrooms had problems, leaks, dripping taps or showers, water not heating, but the worst case was a lady whose bathroom had obviously been newly fitted, but she could not use the handbasin because the waste pipe had not been connected properly so any water in the basin poured onto the floor. When reported to the Manager, he apologised but explained that this had been reported by the previous guest in that room, but nothing could be done until the owner came back from his holiday as he liked to do repairs himself! The foreign young women working on reception, waitressing and cleaning (sometimes all three at the once) were sullen and unhelpful and showed their displeasure when guests came down to breakfast whilst they were still cleaning up the ashtrays from the night before. The food was good and well cooked but the crockery was cracked. On Saturday morning I asked for a glass of tap water to take some tablets and was refused because 'the bar doesn't open until 11 o'clock', My daughter had asked for a double room big enough to take hers and the Bridesmaids dresses to be hung up, and for them to change into later. She also asked that the dresses could be put in the room at 11.30am - they couldn't get access to the room until 12.30pm and there wasn't enough room for one dress let alone three. The girls had to change in our family room, still a squeeze with my hunsband and I and two younger children. The final insult came when a guest I had booked a room for was told that her bill had already been paid and a receipt given to the payer. She queried this four times but they were adamant that it had been paid. All was revealed when I asked to pay my bill which not only had her room on it but was overcharging me too. Other hotels in the area made every effort to make sure the rest of our guests had a very special weekend, and we were expecting a happy, stress free day for our daughter but the Roundabout treated us with contempt. It should be renamed the Hotel from Hell.
