high school sweetheart

I recently re-connected with a high school sweetheart. I used to think she was real sweet, but I haven't seen her in decades. We correspond by email, occasionally. Turns out she's become a rabid republican, whereas I tend toward the other end of the political spectrum. Her husband is quite old (30 years older than her) and we've both suggested obliquely that when he dies we might get together. Now that I know about her politics, though, I doubt it could happen. Our world views are too different. We would argue constantly, if we discussed politics at all. I'd rather date someone like my other old flame, who refers to W as 'the shrub.'
