I have lived in my Habitat Home now for approx. 2 and a half years and have had an issue with surface mold since about the second week of ownership in all my windows. Even though I cleaned the mold off repeatedly with bleach and water, the mold still spread growing particularly well in the bathroom due to the water and humidity. I finally decided to contact Habitat about the mold after dealing with it for the first year in my home, not knowing that it was causing health issues with my children and husband. I was told that it was just surface mold and to clean it with tilex and it should go away. I did this, and it still kept spreading. Another year went by and it had taken over the bathroom walls, my son was diagnosed with asthma, while fighting a battle with pneumonia. It has grown on clothes, sticker charts for my boys, in closets and in the flooring in my sons room. I finally decided to take matters into my own hands and called my insurance company to see who i could have come out and test my home, they referred me to a local company who came out the next day. When he arrived I showed him around and let him do his thing with infared cameras, and somesort of gadget that he poked into the wall, and another that he waved in the air. He took a look in my crawl space and around my home and came to the conclusion that my homes toxic mold is caused by a number of reason including faulty construction, suface mold, and a insuficiant ventalating van in the restroom. Now I am stuck with this mold producing home from Habitat for Humanity with no recourse against them other than to give back my home and suffer the finacial strain it will burden my family with. Suggestion to anyone who is interested in Habitat think twice. I have found out through research that this is not an isolated problem I have suffered there are many more, just look it up under complaints with Habitat. Sincerely, Moldy Dreams
