Because they are (in that moment) given illusions of grandeur, thinking that the action they are taking will make them feel better about their unpleasant and negative situation. But the truth remains that they are digging themselves an emotional hole that will be difficult to dig themselves out of when they grow the fuck up and realize that they are being an immature ass, and only negatively affecting their lives further down the road. In this, the only way to make anything better, is say fuck it, push forward, and react positively to the current situation. Lowering yourself to his level will only empower his decision to leave you and give him satisfaction that you are still hurting, doing well and letting it be known will damage him.
