Why are houses and the general cost of living so expensive in Central Florida? The jobs are mostly low wage and even the higher end jobs are below the national average. There may not be any state tax, but there is city, county, sales, and miscellaneous tax on everything. And the highway tolls are the highest I've ever seen. For the all the high cost of living here, the schools and other services are well below the national average. Add in the hurricanes and this is definitely not paradise.
