FINDER'S KEEPER'S, LOSER'S WEAPER'S

About 14 yrs ago I was out with a friend, very late one night, and we found a wallet in the parking lot of 7-11. We opened it and found $420 in cash. We took the money, split it 50/50, and threw the wallet out the car window off the highway. We - or at least I - rationalized stealing the money. Like somehow we deserved it more than the guy did, somehow it was a 'gift', or we were entitled. I still think about that poor man and how we took his money, and I still feel very guilty about it. He could have had a family, children, anything... it was his money that he earned. Sometimes I think that the bad things that have happened to me financially over the past 10 yrs are because of that night. Like some sort of karmic punishment. I wish I could tell him how sorry I am, and how stupid I was. I hope he could forgive me, and then I can forgive myself.
