Fear of Losing Him

My biggest personal problem is not being prepared for arguments with the person I chose to have in my life, big or small. And I don’t mean being prepared as in not saying enough to “win” the argument. I never care about being the “right” one in an argument; I care about understanding one another. I almost instantly lose touch with myself as soon as I feel we are not seeing something the same in an argument. I can’t handle disagreements like I know how I really should be. An argument to me means we don’t have a mutual understanding to something and instantly feel I am losing him more and more as the seconds go by. It’s even worse when it’s something miniscule because then I feel like we’ve really lost all hope to be civil together if it’s over something silly, and so I stress more, and my fear in losing him is the only thing in my head. Whatever I was saying in the argument becomes completely unimportant to me, and I fear him leaving… until the moment I have seen him smile and hug me again. Why do I do this to myself? Why do I do this to him?

my parents once had a massive two day argument about toothpaste and toilet paper. they've been married for over 35 years. and love each other dearly. but my mum will be first person to tell you that sometimes they just piss each other off and there are some times they don't like each other much. but the love is still there. so yeah, this is normal. welcome to adulthood.

This is a relatively normal issue (I'm sure you've read about the sickos on here). Truth is; relationships are tricky. ALL of them. But the pain caused by them is; well. Just a part of life. The human experiance. Do more listening than talking; but respect yourself as well. Don't argue while your angry. And remember yelling doesn't make your point clearer. No pain in life lasts forever. It always helps me to keep in mind that weaker people have made if through tougher times than I'm going through right now. Hallways keep in mind; Jesus loves you. Caleb
