Suction used to remove wax from my ear caused sensorineural (nerve) hearing impairment. Procedure was carried out by an ENT consultant. This was 4 years ago. Just recently after complaining about a feeling of swelling in my ear with hightened tinnitus, cracking in my ear when swallowing, a blocked nostril on the same side as problem ear and crawling sensation under skin around the ear, the same consultant applied ointment to my ear canal filling it completely because he thought a small amount of inflammed eczema could be the problem. However, 4 days after he did this I felt pressure was building up inside of the ear and then felt a pain followed by a discharge of watery liquid which has continued now for the past 2 days. As I now can hear nothing in that ear and I don't have any cracking noises on swallowing I'm assuming my ear drum has burst. When I rang his secretary to relay what had happened pointing out the discharge was such that it was too much for the ear canal to hold and therefore I doubted it was still the ointment coming out, and that I felt I was suffering from chronic otitis media with perforation, the message came back that the discharge was the ointment he had put in the week before and that I should wait for the appointment I had made with him in another 2 days. I am very worried, but apparently it would seem that a condition that I have described is not serious enough for him to think an appointment is necessary to allay my fears.
