Being in business for myself I currently have no med insurance. I recently had to see a doctor for strep throat we spent no more than 15 mins. together he did a simple swab test that instantly came back positive and prescribed antibiotics. For this visit I was charged $200.00 Fine and Dandy, however upon receiving my bill there was no itemization whatsoever. I called the number on the bill and asked for some type of itemization costs. The billing department treated me as though I was from another planet to ask for such information. Ther pat answer was that the AMA set the prices. Does anyone else find this troubling or is it me? We all make jokes about lawyers I myself have had to hire one for a divorce though the bills never put a smile on my face at least it gave me an idea of what the cost were for. What other profession has the ability to simply make up prices without any explanation whatsoever? It was not a small unheard of clinic it was the Everett Clinic in WA they are huge. Don't they have to explain to the insurance companies what the costs are? Why am I not entitled to that as an average citizen?
