We've just been the victim of the most despicable 'rogue trader' scam! My father passed away suddenly in June 2006, and I'm using some of his money to replace the shower room - we'd talked about him doing it, but he said he was getting too old bless him! The plumber we used, MARTIN TAYLOR, of TAYLOR ADVANCED PLUMBING in BARNSLEY, SOUTH YORKSHIRE, seemed in a rush to do the job - in fact, I didn't even get a proper opportunity to pick the shower or cubicle, he was in such a rush. We were messed around - his supplier let him down more times than I care to remember! He came at odd times - fitting our job in (obviously) in between others. I left him to it. He persuaded us a shower running from our own water system - not electric as we'd had previously - would be better. He took up floorboards and ran a pipe supposedly to our hot water! My husband, and his friend, spent hours after work fitting very expensive tiles. The plumber returned - in a rush again as he was 'going out that evening'. In fact, he'd rung me at work asking if I could get home any earlier than we'd arranged. He was also going on holiday on the 7th October so, again, I got the impression he was hurrying to finish the job. He fitted the shower; I heard him testing it - running back and forth to the boiler in our garage downstairs. At no point did he say the shower wasn't giving out hot water. Indeed, when my husband arrived home he showed us how the shower worked but neither of us, stupidly, went and actually felt the hot water - we sort of assumed it would work! He took his cheque for £750.00 and left. My husband tiled around the sink, re-fitted it, decorated and we were all ready to dress the room today when he decided just to check it was all working .... no hot water whatsoever! The plumber had obviously done a runner knowing he'd made an error, and knowing that we'd have no hot water. Also, knowing that we'd have to remove expensive floor tiles etc. - undo hours of work because of his negiligence! I cannot believe someone would leave your home, with your cheque, and lie to your face about something working knowing the full consequences of their actions. I am cancelling the cheque, but you cannot imagine how infuriated, disappointed and a million other emotions we are. Linda & Michael Noble
