Years ago when I was in college I took a female classmate named Beth to our family cottage for a weekend getaway. We weren’t a couple or anything . . . just “friends” who occasionally dated. I hadn’t scored with Beth, much less gotten to first base with her, so I was hoping the weekend at the cabin would change that. But as my luck would have it my single uncle was at the cabin when we arrived and he said he also had plans to spend the weekend there. Drat! That Friday night the three of us went out to eat and have some drinks and I could tell that Beth was attracted to my uncle as he was tall and handsome compared to puny me. As the drinks flowed they began hitting it off like crazy, leaving me on the sidelines in a blue flunk. It was after midnight before we returned to the cabin and I was assuming that Beth would sleep with me in one of the cabin’s three bedrooms. So imagine my shock and surprise when Beth told me that my uncle had asked her to sleep with him and that she had accepted . . . adding that her and I weren’t a couple and that she was free to do whatever she wanted. Despite my objections, she went to my uncle’s bedroom (next to mine) and closed the door. I couldn’t believe my uncle would steal my date but he had a reputation as a ladies man so I really couldn’t blame him as Beth was super hot and several years younger than him. Needless to say, Beth and I never went out again though she continued to see my uncle for several more months before they had a falling out.
