
Consumer Complaint Against Northland Group, Inc.

On October 30, 2006 at 2:42 Central Time, I called Northland Group, Inc. to inquiry about my account—I called because I needed to change the collection date to settle my account to restore it to good standing. I call twice, both times I spoke to Keith Austad, and he was rude from the first time that I called to the second time that I called. First of all I called to inquiry about changing my post-dated check's date from October 31, 2006 to a later time in November 2006. Mr. Austad then proceeded to inform me in a rude and condescending way that the payment had already been processed for October 30, 2006, not the time (October 31, 2006) that it originally scheduled for. I then asked him if their was anyway that I could change that date and he said no because I had already been processed. I then asked him again if their was anyway that it could be stopped because I was unable to make that payment for today, but I never got to tell him that because he was being a jerk and kept interrupting me when I tried to ask him about changing the date. When he finally let me speak again I asked him what time did the payment go through and he kept telling me today, in a rude manner. I then had to give him an example of what I meant such as, “What time 12:00 or 10:00,” something to that manner. He then informed me, in a snide manner that the payment was taken at 2:00 on October 30, 2006. I thanked him for the answer and hung up. At 3:03 p.m., October 30, 2006 I called back to speak to a manager or a supervisor. He did not oblige me. He asked me why do I need to speak to someone else and I told him that I was done talking to him and that I wanted to speak to someone else, but he refused. I asked at least 3 times to speak to someone else and each time he wouldn't allow it. He then asked me to verify my account so that he could record our conversation. I unwittingly obliged. He then told me that he had told me everything that I needed to know about MY account. I then asked for a manager or a supervisor again because I was done speaking to him. He was already yelling at me at this point and he stated that if I had a problem that I should hang up. I asked again for a manager or a supervisor, but all I got were refusals, rudeness, and yelling. He told me to hang up again. Not once did he proceed to grant my request to speak to someone else, but he did start yelling at me to hang up the phone. I am a nice person and I try to be nice to people over the phone especially creditors and telemarketers, because I know that they have a hard job, but Mr. Austad was nothing but rude, condescending, and belligerent to me. No matter how many times I asked him to connect me to another person he refused. Towards the end of our conversation he was yelling the whole time and that's when I spoke loud and clear for him to hear me. I once again asked for a manager and once again he yelled that if I had a problem then I should hang. I hung up but not before telling him that he was an A**. I could hear him began to state “If you have a problem then...” I hung up. I have never spoken to someone so rude, condescending, and belligerent in my entire life. One would think that if someone was trying to settle their account and pay their creditors so that the creditors job could become a little easier then that creditor would be a little nicer to the customer, because, after all you are trying to get money from the customer, not the other way around. That was not the case for Mr. Austad. I don't know what his problem was, if he woke up on the wrong side of the bed, or he was having a bad day in general, their was absolutely no need for him to be as rude to me as he was. I called about MY account not his. I asked to speak to a manager, not the Pope. All I wanted to do was again, speak to someone different. If he was the manager or the supervisor then he should have informed me. But he didn't say anything but hang up the phone or kept quizzing me about why I wanted to speak to someone else.
