What about Child Abuse? Dear Lord, I come to you in prayer There is a problem down here that isn't very fair It's your Children Lord I want to talk about They are being abused and have no way out It hurts me to see this being done A child looks for Love and finds none One of your creatures that knows no sin What a way for a new life to begin I heard a little girl on the radio That swelled my heart and the tears began to flow The child sang of bruises black and blue Oh Lord, What can we do? The abuse will not go away That is why I have decided to pray Lonesome children need so much Love The only true help must come from above A child alone, her feelings tucked on a shelf With no experience to help herself No guidance to help her through Oh Lord, please touch her as I want to A little boy lost and alone No where to go, he can't go home If he does, he'll be broke in two Frightened, he doesn't know what to do A little baby hungry and wet Cast aside like an unwanted pet No touching and cuddling of the bust This child won't know how to trust And when a woman drowns the children she claims to love, I begin to wonder if there is a God above But if I didn't know you were there I wouldn't be able to send this prayer I know that you have been watching your children all along Keep them worm as they belong Keep them close and safe tonight And Lord, Let them know Love, not fright Love, Liz Written in it's entirety by Elizabeth Branham June 10, 1995 Authors note: The first inspiration for this poem came in December of 1987 when I heard a small child singing the most heart wrenching song that was a plea for help. The child was imploring Mr. Jesus to help, straight from the mouths from babes. The name of the song that inspired the first writing of this poem was “Dear Mr. Jesus” written by Richard Klender. Copyright 1985 Klenco inc. (Klenco Music Group) I couldn't hold back my anger when I heard about the Susan Smith case....I had to do a rewrite of the original version. It is time to get this prayer out there where it will do some good. Love, hugs, kisses and prayers to all the children who are trapped and have no way out. There is always a way out, but it may seam more scary than the original predicament. Remember The person abusing you needs help too. There is no way a person could hurt a child and be “normal” . Children think about why they don't want you to tell... They know what they are doing is wrong. So remember in helping yourself you are helping your loved one. Please tell your counselor at school or your favorite teacher... Reach out for help, Life is too precious to live this way.
