checking legitimacy of employers

I have found a company that LOOKS legitimate in regards to at home employment. I cannot find any information on them that is free. Every site that I find requires sign up and payment. I need a job-- I am broke--I can't afford to pay for this information. The BBB isn't any help as a legitimate company does not have to be a memeber. UHHHHGGGGG
