checked baggage

Whilst we are only allowed hand luggage no bigger than 16cm by35cm by45cm.We are only allowed 20 kg on checked baggage. What do we do on a 18 hr flight(sleep all the time)because I will not be able to have my reading books with me as they will not fit into my handbag I personally feel its another way of getting money out of us. Let me see now what is the charge for extra weight over 20kg £5.00 for 1 kg that adds up to a lot of money if you are not careful.20kg is neither here or there. I suggest they should up it to 30kg if we are restricted to a measly 10kg hand luggage especially long haul flights. I understand about security but this time it has nothing to do with that its all about money
