Canker Sores

Since I was a child I've been getting canker sores. The doctors say they have no idea what causes them.. 'maybe stress.. maybe your toothpaste *shrugs* we really just don't know' Ok.. then where is the research? I pay so damn much money for helthcare here in the US it's not funny, but helthcare here is a business and obviously canker sores aren't that important. They keep me from eating and are very depressing. Thank goodness my girlfriend is at a teachers convention because kissing would be dull at best. -- Does anyone else get thease things.. how long have you been getting them.. do you know of any sure fire home remedy? My friend says he has had them so bad that they cover his inner/lower lip. I only have one and it hurts like hell, I can't emagine more. Just to be clear to the ignorant that may flame STI (STD) here.. canker sores are NOT herpies, they are on the INSIDE and NOT an infection.. that much we do know. Other than that the medicins are lame, only kill the pain.. usually the same stuff for tooth pain but some make a 'covering' that lasts a bout a hundredth of the time they should. I'm just complaining cuz it hurts and doctors just shrug and I wanna give them a few to see how it feels so they'll research it more.
