Break up is hard to do!

I am 19 and in my first term at university, but unresolved issues are hindering my ability to connect to people here. A year ago I met a wonderful man and for the first two months everything was heaven. He told me he loved me and that boosted my confidence. However, due to family problems I increasingly couldn't find time to see him as much as I would have liked. As a result he dumped me. In less than two weeks he was seeing someone else and my friends said they had seen it coming. I feel that everyone thinks I am a fool and I am afraid to have another relationship in case I get hurt again.
