Avery Label Printer

Since there had been previous discussions on label printers, I thought I would share my experience with Avery as a warning to others. I bought an Avery Label printer in November 2005. When I it came time to replace the roll of labels - small roll included with machine, it would no longer function. After dealing with customer support and confirming the unit was flawed, I returned it to the place of purchase and received a replace unit. About three weeks ago the third printer ceased to function. Again, after conversations with customer service, it became clear that my printer needed to be replaced. I was told be Avery that they would send out a FedEx label to have the unit shipped back to them. The label was delivered by FedEx and I packaged up the unit. However, when I called FedEx for pick up I was told they deliver to my community but no pick up service was available. When I shared this with Avery's customer service, I was told that I would need to take the package to a FedEx drop off center 130km away. I was informed that I would be reimbursed for my travel cost and noted the mileage for the trip in the papers going to Avery. Last week the replacement unit arrived so I called again to ask about the promised reimbursement. I was told to fax a copy of my fuel receipt to their 800# and I would receive my reimbursement. When I attempted to fax the receipt, I got a telephone company recording confirming that the number is not available in my service area. Another call to customer service and I was told I could send an email attachment of the receipt. The response from that e-mail was ‘I do apologize for the inconvenience but we will be unable to forward the attachment due to system restrictions.' I suggested they print the attachment and send it to their own 800# since the e-mail was sent state-side. My suggestion was ignored. Next I was now told that I was to mail the receipt to Brea, CA which would delay the time for reimbursement. I was finally able to get a fax number to Avery's Brea, CA location and forwarded faxed the documentation. I also escalated my concerns to supervisory staff who assured me that thing would be resolved shortly. My answering machine now holds a message asking me refax my receipts to another phone number and that my reimbursement will be in Avery product to limit of my fuel cost. Since I am on printer number #3, I can't speak highly of the Avery product. Further, given my customer service experience, I would say Avery is not set up to appropriately deal with customer service issues in small town Alberta nor care to extend their 800# fax service to us here in Canada. All I can say is that if you purchase an Avery label printer, you can't say I didn't warn you.
