I made the mistake of contacting an Ameriquest representative about refinancing three years ago. The guy seemed to be very excited about working with me to get the lowest rates and best terms. He wanted to help me get my kids through college and see that me and my wife were as comfortable as possible. I was at a very desparate point in my life. I was behind on payments and the future was bleak, I needed help fast and was tired of searching through lenders. Before I knew it, the interest rate had gone up, and the terms had changed, but I was still looking forward to saving hundreds of dollars a month! Three years later, now paying $300.00 more a month for my mortgage payment, I am not real happy. You see, the agent never explained to me that there would be a $3000.00 penalty if I wanted to refinance before three years were up. And I thought he was my buddy!
