Am I wasting my time?

My boyfriend and I are at different universities and I exploded with anger when he didn't call me for ages. We split up for a while, then got back together. Then he admitted that he had had lunch with a girl who likes him and they had drunk the champagne we were going to share on graduating. He said this happened after we had split up, but he was inconsistent about the dates. He says he loves me, but he is controlling and can't be trusted. At 22 I don't want to waste my time if he is wrong for me. I keeping wondering, why can't I leave him?
