ADT-A company to stay away from

If you are looking for an alarm monitoring service for your home or business, stay away from ADT. Just because they have been in business for a long time doesn't make them reliable or honest. Don't get hooked because the name is familiar. Here's my experience. I relied on their longevity so I foolishly signed a contract with them. They told me I had to replace my esisting keypad (which was a lie) at $159 and also pay a $25 connection fee, and I agreed to both. Then when they came out to install, they wanted to charge me an additional $150 to replace the controller. I refused to pay that so they packed up and went home. they had already charged my credit card for the original amount though. I sent them a fax instructing them to credit my account if any charges had been put through. Now a month later that amount is still on my credit card and the credit card company won't reverse the charges because ADT tells them that I have a credit on their books. That credit does me no good since I am not going to be able to use it up and now I have to fight for my own money which should have been credited automatically. Would you want to do business with a company like that? I don't. By the way, I found a small local company to do my monitoring that charges $8 a month less, has no connection fee, and is using my existing equipment with no changes or charges. ADT did me a favor.
