a twisted situation

My best friend and I recently began planning for him to come and visit me, and while he's here, we have planned for him to take my virginity. All was going well until we began talking about our feelings for one another, and I finally had to confess that I am on my way to falling in love with him. He said that this would be a bad idea since we live so far apart, and that our sexual experience is going to be something between friends (although we are so much closer than friends are). I can't have just a casual experience, I now realize. And communication has stopped between us. I don't know what to do to fix this or make it better.
